About Interpersonal Functioning
Interpersonal Functioning is an educational self-reflection and communication tool that helps individuals understand their own recurring relational patterns, practice effective ways of asking for what they need, and build clear, shared agreements with the people who matter to them. The app brings together three connected tools: a library of DBT interpersonal effectiveness skills centered on the DEAR MAN framework for structured, assertive conversations; a private Interpersonal Pattern workspace that uses a four-component cyclical model to surface how expectations, actions, and self-talk feed back into one another; and an Interpersonal Contract space where participants propose personal commitments and shared agreements.
It is designed for adults who want to grow in self-awareness and communication, including clients working alongside a therapist, family members strengthening their relationships, and individuals exploring these ideas on their own. The app is supportive and reflective, not diagnostic. It surfaces tentative observations and asks reflective questions, leaving every conclusion and every agreement to the user. A guided Agent is available to rehearse conversations, notice possible patterns, and turn vague wishes into specific commitments.
Interpersonal Functioning is part of the Weingarden Psychological Services app suite and is built by the team behind that practice. It is an educational tool and does not replace psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy, or professional care. Access to the private pattern and contract tools is available through a low-cost annual plan, an invitation from your therapist, or a referral from someone already using the app.
The tools here make suggestions and ask reflective questions. They do not diagnose and do not decide who is responsible for a conflict — your conclusions and your agreements stay yours.
